Equity’s South Wales branch held its relaunch event this week, introducing a new in-person meeting structure featuring guest speakers.
The relaunch marks the start of a new monthly meeting format, with future guest speakers, including casting directors and producers, with workshops also planned in response to member feedback gathered through a survey of members earlier this year.
The event garnered positive feedback from members, many of whom were attending a branch meeting for the first time. Simon Curtis and Damien Jones, the Equity staff members responsible for the meeting, said the turnout marked the highest number of South Wales members present at a meeting in several years.
During the meeting, branch business included the delivery of a motion by Terry Victor, which was unanimously approved by members. Oola Pearl, Variety Officer, also presented a report on work underway to build the South Wales Variety Network and plans for a pre-Pride event.
Following the branch business, Equity’s Wales & South West official, Simon Curtis, curated a guest talk from Geinor Styles, Artistic Director of theatre company Na’nog. Styles spoke about the company’s work and the challenges facing arts and culture in Wales. The talk was followed by an open Q&A with attending members.
The next South Wales branch meeting will take place on 19 March, with further details to be announced.
