Equity has elected its President, Council, Appeals Committee and Conference Business Committee for the 2026-2028 term. Lynda Rooke has been re-elected to serve as Equity's President for a third term, making her Equity’s longest serving female President in the union’s history.
Commenting on the election result, Equity President Lynda Rooke said: "I am both delighted and very proud to be President of Equity again for another two years, as well as the Women’s Councillor. There is still so much work to do; the truth is that all trade unions have a constant hill to climb, to fight for better pay, terms and conditions for their members, ensuring dignity and respect for them in the workplace. This is no time to be blasé about the challenges the union faces, but the role of a President is not an isolated one, it forms part of what I confidently believe will yet again be a strong, progressive Council. Together, alongside our dedicated staff, we will unite and strive to achieve the union’s aims and improve the working lives of our members."
Thank you to everyone who voted in these elections and played a vital role in the union’s democracy and congratulations to everyone elected on their appointment.

About the elected positions
Equity’s President is the most prominent member within the union. They chair the Council, conference and other meetings, and represent the union nationally and internationally.
Equity’s Council is made up of 34 members plus the President. It is the union's governing body, or national executive, and the key decision-making body within the union. It is made up of various different seats, some general and some reserved for specific parts of the union's membership.
It is elected every two years and makes crucial decisions about what the union does — for example, it oversees the contracts we agree with employers and decides on the campaigns we run.
The Appeals Committee hears appeals following disciplinary procedures within the union and the Conference Business Committee arranges the business of the union's annual conference.
