Action Afternoon For Dancers and Movement Artists

An afternoon of conversation, connection and collective action at Equity's London offices or zoom.

Whether it’s the torture of being pencilled and cancelled without renumeration or being incorrectly contracted as supporting artists, there are many hurdles to being a professional dancer or movement artist.

With the inception and impressive progress of the Choreographers and Movement Directors’ Network over the past 2 years, the Dance Committee is looking to build a similar collective of dancers and movement artists to advocate for better practice via our union.

So, if you’re a dance/movement artist and you’re interested in advocacy and working to understand and improve working conditions for you and your peers, come along to this ACTION DAY for DANCERS AND MOVEMENT ARTISTS.

The session aims to:

• Identify areas that are both working and not working in your workplaces
• Explore what an Equity network can achieve
• Educate performers about existing agreements and protections
• Start organising dancers and movement artists

By coming along you’ll learn what it means to be part of a trade union, how you can work for change in the industry that you love and doesn’t always love you back and meet the peers who will be beside you as you go!

Whether you’re already a member or you’re thinking about joining, now is the time to get involved.

We will start the afternoon with lunch, provided by Equity, and an opportunity to chat and meet the committee. The day will then finish with an informal social bringing choreographers, movement directors, dancers and movement artists together to connect, reflect and toast the day.
