What is the Equity Book Club?

On the first Monday of every month, we discuss a book that's connected to the Industry in some way – a glimpse into the life of an understudy on the West End, a pair of producers in ancient Sicily, a thriller about a film star's darkest secret. Using a mix of both novels and biographies that focus on a particular time and place, we want to build a network of artists in the North West and create the community that so many of us crave in this incredibly competitive and often isolating profession.

6 April book: The Understudy by David Nicholls

Who can come?

Anyone! You don't have to be a member of our branch to drop in, so if you're touring with a show and fancy some good company, pop along. It's also open to non-Equity members, so if you know someone who might enjoy it, you can bring them along as well.

Is it accessible?

Yes, the Pen Factory is completely accessible with a lift going down the short flight of stairs and the rest of the area all being on the same level. It's also dog friendly for those of you who want to bring along your furry companions. Not only that, but we've made sure that there are audiobooks available for each of our book choices.

How do I sign up?

If you'd like to RSVP, you can email us here: merseyside&cheshire@equitybranches.org.uk. But you can also just turn up – we've plenty of space in the venue! And if you've not read the book but are still interested in meeting up with others, feel free to pop along for the post-club social at 8pm.

What if I can't come to this one?

No problem – send us an email with your contact information and we'll add you to the WhatsApp group. Or else you can follow us on Instagram to get the latest updates.
