New agreement with Nevill Holt Festival will protect workers rights and pay

The Equity House Agreement includes guarantees around minimum levels of pay, working hours and holiday provision for those working on the Festival’s Opera productions.

Equity is pleased to confirm our first House Agreement with the East Midlands based Nevill Holt Festival.

The agreement reached ensures performers and stage management working on Nevill Holt Festival’s Opera Productions have vital protections at work. These include guarantees around minimum levels of pay, working hours and employer pension contributions. The festival takes place each June and hosts opera performances as well as classical music, theatre, art, jazz and contemporary music alongside conversations with leading novelists, historians, broadcasters and artists.

This represents a positive step forward in demonstrating the value of Opera produced on a recognised union agreement, showing performers and stage management the dignity and respect that they deserve.

Lottie Stables, Equity Official for Opera, said:

"Performers and stage management working at Nevill Holt Festival will benefit from an agreement which recognises their status as workers in law, and that is working towards industry best practice.”

James Hunt, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Nevill Holt Festival, said:

"The welfare, happiness and care of our talented performers and stage management team at the Nevill Holt Festival is paramount and integral to its success. We are proudly building something exceptional and unique in the cultural landscape of the East Midlands here at Nevill Holt Festival this summer and having an agreement with Equity is vital in helping us achieve our ambitions for the event.”
