Vice-Presidents and Honorary Treasurer re-elected to Equity Council

Honourary Treasurer David John addresses TUC Congress 2024

Equity's new Council has re-elected Jackie Clune and Nick Fletcher as Vice-Presidents, and David John as Honorary Treasurer, at its inaugural meeting last week (14 July), marking the start of the new Council’s 2026-28 term.

Equity has five Officers in total: the President, the General Secretary, two Vice-Presidents and the Honorary Treasurer. Jackie, Nick and David sit alongside Lynda Rooke (President) and Paul W Fleming (General Secretary).

Vice-Presidents chair Council meetings and union conferences when the President isn't available, represent the union, and take on other duties as Council decides.

The Honorary Treasurer's role is to present the annual statement of accounts to Equity Conference, inspect the union's financial records to check compliance with the Rule Book, examine and endorse the annual accounts for Council's approval, and present a draft annual budget for Council to approve.

Jackie Clune, Equity Vice-President, said: "I'm thrilled to have been re-elected as Vice-President of Equity. I'm incredibly proud of the work we achieved on the last Council, standing up for members and making huge leaps forward as an organisation. I'm looking forward to continuing that work over the next two years, work that's made a tangible change to members' lives and improved pay across the industry. To get to do this alongside members, as well as new colleagues and old on Council, means a great deal to me."

Nick Fletcher, Equity Vice-President, said: “Collectively, our new council will continue to tackle head-on the huge industrial challenges facing members and those in the wider industry, from Spotlight to AI regulation to poor working practices . It's a huge honour to be elected, alongside Jackie and David, to serve as an Equity officer for another term and fight for our members’ best interests. We’ll never be afraid to fight for our members’ best interests”.

David John, Equity Honorary Treasurer, said: “To have been elected for this next term, and to have Council once again put their faith in myself, Jackie and Nick, is a huge privilege. Our strong finances allow our union to continue the amazing work we do, not just on Council, but union-wide: supporting the work of our committees, branches and staff members, our international solidarity work, our benevolent fund for members and bereavement support, allowing for our amazing insurance package offer, and for the greening of our pensions. It is my privilege to oversee our finances on behalf of Council.”

Council elects its Vice-Presidents and Honorary Treasurer at the start of each term, and following this re-election, Jackie, Nick and David will each serve a further two years in post.
