Give us back our arts centre!

Join our lantern procession and rally on 5 February 2026 to mark exactly one year since Halifax's Square Chapel closed its doors. It is time to bring the lights back on. One year of darkness is enough.

Why is our venue closed?

In February 2025, Square Chapel CIC (based in Wigan) shuttered our
local landmark and show no inclination to reopen it.

Despite multiple individuals and organisations expressing interest and
support in reviving the space, only Arts Council England have the
power to bring about change.

What do we want?

• A vibrant and inclusive space for diverse culture, arts and socialising.
• A vital home for local arts organisations.
• A hub for community outreach and creative jobs.

What are we doing?

We have been lobbying Arts Council England, Calderdale Council and
others to bring about a handover to a leadership that puts our
community first. Don’t let it slip away. Please join us.
