Equity Zooms In On...

Equity's Equalities Committees are hosting a series of free weekly virtual coffees to help us keep connected. Join us every Thursday to hear from Equity members, staff and activists on an array of topics, ask questions and share your experiences.

All Zooms In On events will be at 11.30am.

We want these meetings to be fully inclusive and accessible. If you have any access needs, including the need for a BSL interpreter, please email Lottie on lstables@equity.org.uk. Captioning is available for any meeting you attend via Otter AI by clicking on the link on the top left hand corner of the Zoom screen.

Members can log in to access recordings of previous sessions on our Zooms In On archive page.

As well as this programme of events, many branches are running Zoom meetings for their members. Please see your branch's webpage and check their social media for more information.

Equity Zooms In On...Being an Anti-Racist Ally

Thursday 22 April, 11.30am

Our Zooms In event on 22nd April is being held on the anniversary of the violent, racist murder of Stephen Lawrence. Stephen Lawrence Day is a call to honour the memory of Stephen and ask how you can contribute to the on-going fight against racism, anti-Semitism and fascism.

As part of Equity’s national strategy to support anti-racist activity this Zooms In will explore how Equity members can play a vital role as an anti-racist trade union ally, working in solidarity with and on behalf of those members most likely to face the detrimental outcomes of day-to-day racism and anti-Semitism in society and the workplace.

Equity Zooms In On...Games

Thursday 6 May, 11.30am

Games is a huge area of work for many Equity members, from voice overs to motion capture, thousands of Equity members are working in this multi million pound, ever growing industry. At present, there are no Equity agreements in this area, but this is something Equity is currently making huge progress in, and beginning to make agreements with studios for Games work. Come along to this Zooms in... session to hear what the union is doing in this area and hear what you should expect when working in Games.

Equity Zooms In On...Housing

Thursday 13 May, 11.30am

Equity members are affected hugely by the housing crisis due to uncertainty of income and the centralisation of our industry in expensive cities. We have a responsibility to remove access barriers to the arts. The housing crisis isn’t going away anytime soon: extortionate rents, landlords threatening evictions during the pandemic, and substandard housing leading to health problems, injuries or even premature death.

Join Equity Councillor Sam Swann for a discussion with other members about what can be done collectively to battle against the housing crisis.

With videos from:

  • Louie Herbert, co-founder of ACORN
  • Cat Telford (pronouns: they/she), Campaign Officer, Living Rent Gorgie Dalry (Edinburgh) Branch
  • Javie Huxley, an illustrator and campaigner from Save Latin Village
