Yesterday (3 December) Equity marked the International Day of Disabled People / Persons with Disabilities the official launch of its new Access Toolkit, unveiled in Cardiff by the union’s Deaf and Disabled Members Committee (DDMC).

Developed by DDMC during the last committee term, the Access Toolkit is a comprehensive guide designed to deepen understanding of the deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent (DDN) community and to support branches, committees, and activists in making meetings and events fully accessible.

The guide brings together practical advice, lived-experience insight, and a suite of resources aimed at helping all members by providing guidance on inclusive meeting practice, communication support and facilitating both online and in-person events.

Alongside the written toolkit, DDMC has produced videos and resource links that highlight best practice and signpost users to disabled-led organisations that offer specialist support across the performing arts and entertainment industry. These materials aim to empower members and organisers to adopt a proactive, informed approach to accessibility and inclusion.

Speaking at the launch, Natalie Amber, Chair of the Deaf and Disabled Members Committee and honorary life member of the Union, said:

"It is so important to ensure that deaf, disabled and neurodivergent members can participate equally in the union’s work - this toolkit is vital for all Equity's members and the wider community as it promotes access and inclusivity, education and participation".

The Access Toolkit is now available to all members.
